MY YEARS HERE When reflecting on my Union Square customers, I realize I still serve the same type of person I set out to serve some 28 years ago, a discerning customer with an eye for the less ordinary. I began in the market not as a grower of flowers but rather as a beekeeper. The transition to growing flowers was an easy one. Like the bee, first I gathered wild flowers. Before long, I had three greenhouses, filled to the brim with tulips and lilies to name a few. The children who once worked by my side have all grown up now and moved on with their lives, as children often do. Once again on my own, I've come full circle. Through it all, it has been your encouragement over the years that has allowed me to find my true passion, the flowers.
THE VIRTUE OF INDEPENDENCE Being an independent grower, I have the luxury to resist the temptation to compromise in quality for any quantity. As one man, I am only able to produce so much, so it must be the very best that I can offer. Practically speaking, I cannot compete with the large volume flower producers and importers, nor do I want to. I would much rather grow a few of many different varieties than many of only a few . You have given me the opportunity to dedicate my life to finding and growing unusual and extraordinary flower varieties. YOUR CONTRIBUTION You know who you are, you want quality, freshness and something unique but at a fair price. You tell me this each time you come to my table to buy my flowers. My ability to continue growing exotic varieties of flowers has been largely fueled by your desire and passion for only the very best. My thanks to you for recognizing the difference. WHERE TO FIND ME Look for me at the Union Square Greenmarket in New York City. You'll find me near the pavilion, year round, only on Saturday. Remember, I can't come to you. To get my flowers you'll have to come see me. I look forward to meeting you in person. Best Regards, Jack Faoro WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS Your flowers are grown for you in greenhouses on Burnt Meadow Road in Gardiner, New York. Because they travel such a short distance rather than across the country, you are always ensured the freshest flower that you can get.
